The intervention aims at establishing an effective and sustainable public debate in Macedonia on the issues of EU on the basis of partnership among the governmental, non-governmental, business and interest institutions (so-called sectoral Working Groups) as well as on strengthening Macedonia’s capacities for EU integration process. The intervention’s expected result is the establishment of the open and wide platform (National Convention) for public discourse on issues of the EU integration, needed reforms and other issues of crucial importance for Macedonian society. It also aims to engage the general public into the process of national policies-making and the elaboration of standpoints of Macedonia in the field of EU integration agenda by supporting the sectoral EU communities on the basis of the Working Groups, transfer the Slovak political, economic and social transition know-how as well as to continue supporting an interactive and permanent information source on the EU for all segments of Macedonian society. An open discussion will increase the responsibility of political leaders for development in Macedonia, it will strengthen the necessary cooperation between officials and the NGO sector. It will ensure that the expert community will become increasingly important partner of policy makers and that objective information will continue reaching the public. The intervention will continue pinpointing the significance to the practical and actual issues and challenges, which Macedonia has to face within the EU integration process; and last but not least it will strengthen a productive environment for a true participation of citizens in the public life. Within the intervention National Convention on the EU in Macedonia, the following activities will take place: • 4 Working Groups will be established to work on the following topics: WG I: Agriculture and rural development; WG II: Social policy and employment; WG III: Judiciary and fundamental rights; WG IV: Justice, freedom and security. WGs will meet 24 times in total, plus three Plenary sessions; • Active participation of Slovak experts will help Macedonian experts learn about Slovak experience in the area of EU integration and reforms and derive lessons applicable for the Macedonian reality; • the main communication channels– website and Facebook and Twitter accounts – will be established; • publication with the WG recommendations towards the main stakeholders will be published; • the implementation will be accompanied continuously with the PR events, press conferences, press statements, interviews with the WGs experts and coordinators.
