Description

Main objective of the project: USHIRIKIANO CENTRUM (Malindi, Kenya) St. Mary's Catholic Dispensary in MSABAHA is a project co-founded and supported by the applicant. It provides educational, social and nutritional support for people in need and comprehensive care for people infected with HIV. Volunteer stay will be profiled especially for participation :: 1.) Educational project A.) Formal education • Helping children from poor families get basic education. (help with school selection (private / public), assistance with school fees (50% -100%), help with basic school needs). B.) Non-formal education • Lessons of mothers of children, supported in any way by one of our projects. The lessons focus on keeping good hygiene habits, order at home, common diseases of the 3 rd world, motivating children to learn, the consequences of not paying school fees and many other topics according to the current needs of society and problems arising during project activities. C.) Children's lessons and activities. Lessons focus on topics similar to those of mothers so that children and mothers can work together easily in the family. Lessons are not only verbal but we mainly use demonstrations, animations, theater and others. Other topics include: lying versus true, the need for education, how to kill boredom during the holidays, help your family ... and others. D) Computer lessons for high school students, kt. are included in our educational project. E) Education aimed at preventing the spread of infectious diseases with an emphasis on the current pandemic caused by the Covid 19 virus. 2.) Social project - helping poor families especially in the form of food. It is also a donation of clothing, shoes, household items, bed mattresses and linen, and much more according to the current needs of a particular family (such as building a roof in the house, paying lunch at school). The volunteer will also get to know: 3.) Malnutrition project - support of food for malnourished children. (This project is governed by WHO, UNICEF and Kenya Government rules). MUAC measurement Mother without milk Height measurement Detection of anemic signs 4.) HIV mobile unit - the project was created to eliminate the cost of transport for patients. The aim is to bring expert HIV help to their homes. The volunteer will participate in education and consultation for local social workers and logists through the transfer of knowledge and skills. Its activities will contribute to establishing long-term partnerships between organizations and communities and building institutional relations between Slovak entities. Activities will strengthen solidarity and provide innovative responses to emerging social challenges. The project also aims to support local capacity building, there are not enough experts and social workers in the area, and volunteer activities in collaboration with the expert will lead to local experts training. The project also aims to promote intercultural dialogue, foster solidarity and understanding between peoples and long-term partnerships between organizations and communities in Kenya. The stay of the volunteer will be part of the preparation for work in the area of development cooperation. Detailed description of volunteer activities: • Educational and leisure activities of children • Improving the promotion of Slovak development assistance • Identification of children suitable for secondary education • Participation in the training of local social workers - knowledge transfer • Participation in the logistical support of the project • Participation in the activities of anti-nutrition centers • Participation in HIV Center activities • Participation in the implementation of remote adoption • Training of potential Slovak experts for development assistance • An important part of the project will also be a return event, where the volunteer will present to the Slovak public their experience of staying in Malindi and the volunteer program. There are not enough experts and social workers in the field, so the project is also aimed at supporting local capacity building, as the volunteer will be part of an international team and will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge and experience. The volunteer will participate in education and consultation for local social workers and logists through the transfer of knowledge and skills. The project also aims to promote intercultural dialogue, foster solidarity and understanding between peoples and long-term partnerships between organizations and communities in Malindi. The stay of the volunteer will be part of the preparation for work in the area of development cooperation. The project provides an ideal environment for volunteering and creates sufficient conditions for this. The activities of the volunteers will be carried out under the supervision of an experienced employee of the University of St. Elizabeth. New volunteer will be able to follow up on activities undertaken by previous volunteers Volunteer will participate in regular staff meetings in the project, where he will participate in the analysis of individual activities and suggest possible improvements. The volunteer will carry out his activities in coordination with a social worker from Slovakia who works in Malindi. The volunteer will have the opportunity to meet with representatives of other non-governmental organizations in Kenya focused on social activities, where they will exchange experiences from individual activities. The main goal of the activities of a Slovak volunteer is to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills in implementing specific project activities in a developing country. An important aspect is that the volunteer will operate in a multi-cultural space. The volunteer will update the photographs and information about the children and the project that will be used to promote Slovak development aid. An important part of the project will also be a return event where the volunteer will present to the Slovak public their experience of staying in Malindi and the volunteer program SLOVAK-AID and participate in global education. It will participate in raising awareness and supporting the Slovak public in favor of development cooperation and humanitarian aid through the involvement of volunteers.
