In order to improve the quality of life and health of the population in the context of the post-pandemic period, the project assists Oni municipality in the development of pilot solutions for sustainable wastewater management, which positively influence the protection of surface and ground water resources providing drinking water for cities and villages around Rioni River. In the scope of the project, modern technologies and equipment for wastewater management will be researched to comply with local conditions and installed for public administrations, self-government and local society of Oni Municipality located in Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti Region of Georgia. As a result of the project, the capacities of local stakeholders in wastewater management will be strengthened and wastewater treatment infrastructure will be installed in so-called “hot spot” areas around important water bodies after assessing environmental and socio-economic situation in the municipality. In parallel, the assanisation vehicle for local self-government will be purchased to ensure proper management of sludge left from wastewater treatment. The emphasis will also be given to the trainings and awareness-rising actions of local stakeholders related to sustainable wastewater management and application of simple technological solutions in wastewater treatment. To ensure sustainable continuation of the project action, the Strategy and Action Plan on Wastewater Management in Oni municipality will be developed and the best pilot cases implemented in the scope of the project with guideline on selection, installation and operation of wastewater treatment facilities will be documented and transferred in the replication strategy to other interested municipalities in the region.
